Nic Ezzell Named Goldwater Scholar
A Mississippi State University student has been named the only 2018 Goldwater Scholar from Mississippi.
Nic Ezzell, a physics and mathematics major, is one of only 211 students to be offered the award.
"Nic is clearly one of the best from among the best, most competitive pool of student researchers [in the scholarship's] history," said Director of the University's Office of Prestigious External Scholarships, Dr. Thomas Anderson.
Ezzell is the fourth student from Mississippi State University to win the award within the last six years.
The Goldwater Scholarship is one of the nation's premier undergraduate scholarships for students who have significant research experience and who are likely to make important contributions in research in graduate school and beyond. Ezzell has conducted research at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Oxford University. He has been mentored by MSU professors Dr. Nicholas Fitzkee and Dr. Dipangkar Dutta.
Ezzell is a Presidential Scholar, a member of the Shackouls Honors College, and a graduate of the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science.
